At the opening session of its new-product introduction last night, Mercury Marine revealed an all-new MerCruiser 4.5-liter V6 sterndrive engine, which will be rated at 250 horsepower and weighs 130 pounds less than the 5.0-liter V8 engine it will replace. The engine is manufactured entirely by Mercury Marine, rather than sourced from an automobile manufacturer.

On the Mercury outboard side is a new 2.1-liter, four-cylinder FourStroke outboard series that will be rated at 75-, 90-, and 115-horsepower. Mercury says the lightest version of the new outboard weighs just 359 pounds, or 20 pounds less than the new Yamaha F115 that had just set the standard in this category.
